11 Things Worth Knowing Before Coming to Vilnius

The World Apostolic Congress on Mercy is a special opportunity not only to deepen your understanding of mercy, but also to discover Vilnius – the city where the lives and mission of Blessed Fr. Michał Sopoćko and Saint Faustina became closely connected.

Participants will have many opportunities to experience the city during the afternoon programme. Still, it is helpful to become familiar with some practical information before your arrival – especially if you are planning to stay in Vilnius longer than the five days of the Congress.

1. Getting to the City from the Airport or Train Station

Vilnius is a compact and easy-to-navigate city. Reaching the city centre from the airport or railway station is simple and convenient by:

  • taxi or ride-hailing services

Please note that Congress participants will be able to use public transport in Vilnius free of charge throughout the event.

7. Tourist Tax

A tourist tax applies in Vilnius:

€2 per person, per night.

The fee helps support the city’s tourism infrastructure and is usually included in the accommodation price.

If you have extra time, make sure to visit Trakai – a historic town just 30 km from Vilnius, famous for its island castle and traditional Karaim pastries called kibinai.
